I always used to submit them because I live in shared house and 3 different people on different times. But I found that if you do give readings although the weekly/fornightly/monthly is a couple of pounds more in the long run its more affordable but I have a smart meter now and It says I dont need to
it might not be much, but its better than a kick in the teeth:rotfl:

I submit readings each month and keep a record so I can compare use in equivalent months/quarters of earlier years and always know the account balance is accurate.

I find it's best always to be slightly in debit with energy accounts, There are ways and means of managing this with your own seasonally 'adjusted' readings and making sure your initial DD is on the low side. Of course you pay for whatever you use at the end of the day but why should the energy company be earning interest on your money when it could be earning interest in your account ? Companies have a poor record of running up excessive credit balances and disproportionately increasing DD's to earn themselves an excessive profit. They also can be slow/obstructive in paying credit balances back. You can play the system to your own advantage just as they do.

If you're on a tight budget and don't want to pay a larger lump sum when you switch supplier then that's fine, but for me it's the best way to manage it to my own advantage. This probably only works if you switch supplier each year, which is usually best to do anyway.
