We submitted a claim by phone in April 2014, as i needed to also be my partners appointee with DWP we had to wait for that to be done first, eventually got PIP form which i filled in and returned back in July. I enclosed all his hospital letters confirming memory loss, heart failure etc etc. Have heard nothing from anyone and really need a decision made. I need to get back to work but as his carer i cant do anything until we have carers allowance and i can have someone in to do all the bits i currently do? PIP have said 26 weeks til appointment but surely the letters from consultants confirming conditions should tell them what is wrong?
Thanks in advance for any replies xxx

Hi, i live in this area and i'm really sorry to have to tell you but the 26 weeks they tell you is so wrong!! They tell that to everyone. However the backlog for PIP assessments right now is huge!! People are actually waiting over 1 year, that's in most areas. The fact that you've sent in evidence about his condition makes no difference either i'm afraid. Most people are giving an assessment before any decision is made and also PIP has nothing to do with the condition (s) or diagnosis it's all about how the condition itself affects your daily life. I.E Mobility and/or can he cook a meal, washing, dressing, making decisions and this is just to start with. You only sent the form back in July so i think you have a very long wait ahead of you. Sorry i couldn't tell you any better news. Good luck.Emmanuel1998 wrote: »We submitted a claim by phone in April 2014, as i needed to also be my partners appointee with DWP we had to wait for that to be done first, eventually got PIP form which i filled in and returned back in July. It doesn't matter what's wrong with your partner. All DWP care about is his care and /or mobility needs.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I would suggest you contact Social Services for an assessment of your partners care needs if you are currently caring for him/her and need to get back to work. They can arrange carers from an agency and will do a financial assessment to see how much you can afford to pay towards the costs. Carers allowance will not fund a private carer.
I hope that helps.0 -
I have given copies that confirm the diagnosis of a number of conditions that he has and on the form detailed how they affect his day to day living, i.e because of his memory loss he doesnt know what day it is, cant remember what or how to cook etc and also things like needs all meds to be given by someone as he wont remember to take etc, have one the points score and he should qualify but who knows!
Thanks for all the replies, i will contact social services re care plan as it would be a great help to have someone lighten the load even a little bit, to go back to work would be amazing :-)0 -

Hi, l am in your area. Applied for PIP in March, had an assessment beginning of October & am currently awaiting a decision.
You can only claim carers allowance if you earn l think no more than £100 per week so Social Services would be your best bet.
Good luck!0 -
Dont know if it will help anyone but i spoke to our local MP who took the case up. Just been told ATOS have done a report without needing a face to face (not sure if that is a good thing or bad LOL) and we should hear soon x0
