Difficult decision

Having spoken to the vet, it seems that the tumour is already high up in her leg and there is no definite that it hasn't spread under muscle etc, and therefore is in an area which even a radical amputation would not cover.
The vet said that if it were her dog, she wouldn't choose to amputate.
At the moment Stella is happy, on Metacam, still pootling around, wagging her tail and whilst she can't jump on the sofa without my help, she can if there is a sausage there;).
Thanks for your input all:)0 -
So you are going to leave her while she's happy enough? I think that's for the best.0
-
Sorry, I wasn't very clear there zaks. I will just monitor her and the vet will change from the Metacam to a painkiller as and when we feel it appropriate.
Working on the quality over quantity theory. For the moment she seems fine in herself.0 -
remember she doesn't know she has cancer or a limited future and enjoy each day.0

Bugs, I'm so sorry to read about Stella.
I hope she enjoys sausages for a while yet.0 -
as I said, you are making the RIGHT decision based on your knowledge and your vets' knowledge of YOUR dog. I do hope she never needs strong pain relief and the rest of her life is happy and painfree.0

Sorry the news wasn't better for Stella
You've made an informed choice and are doing what is best for her, given the circumstances. As Sheramber said, Stella doesn't know she's ill so just enjoy being together.
I hope you get to spend lots more quality time with your precious girl and make plenty more happy memories together.

It's always a hard decision ,I feel for you.
My 11 yr old last month had a lump removed, bounced back from op within days,as I knew he would! We were hoping it was a slow growing cancer that was all removed successfully. But he already has another growing, so now we monitor it monthly and the second it impairs on his life( he wouldn't be happy not going in car to woods every day) then I have to do what's right x0 -
Thank you all:)
hmc, I'm sorry to hear about your boy, I hope you get lots more walks with him.0
