Low usage...?

After reading Martins email yesterday, I decided after living in my current property for two years, it was time to review who my supplier is.
I switched to Utility Warehouse when I first moved, and have been happy with them.
We have a log burner in our living room, and quite often will leave the heating off, and just have the fire on - resulting in what appear to be exceptionally low usage. So much so, that I felt the need to ask for any thoughts or advice...
I have calculated my yearly usage for gas at 455kwh.
I took a meter reading on 31/10/13 - 17309
30/09/14 - 17723
= 414 / 11 * 12 (then round up to ) 455.
I've just read that the average UK consumption is 13,500kwh!!!
Have I missed the glaringly obvious somewhere?
When in comes to electricity, I used the same method to calculate my annual usage at 1,810kwh, which is quite a bit closer to the UK average of 3,200kwh.
Thanks for reading, happy to hear any thoughts!

That's the number of units, not the kwh.. you need to check if your meter is imperial or metric, then follow through the guides or what is in the bill in terms of how you convert that into a Kwh - theres conversion factors and calorific measures to use...0
-
My Annual meter usage is about 1220 units on the meter, which is then about 13,700 kwh after the conversion factor is applied..0
-
I thought it seemed a bit too good to be true, hence the question!!
Just read my last bill properly... and saw the conversion... Which came to 5,157kwh p.a. - which sounds a bit more like it.0 -
So I could save £104 p.a. with this new MSE EON 12 month fixed tariff. Result!
Plus the £30 cash back, plus £60 worth of Tesco clubcard points.
Nearly £200 for 30 mins, thanks again MSE!0 -

!
As stated above there are two types of gas unit - an Imperial(measures cubic feet) of metric(measures cubic metres). Metric meters are far more common as the old Imperial meters are gradually being replaced.
The kWh content of a gas unit can vary slightly, but a metric gas unit is approx. 11.2kWh and an Imperial gas unit is approx. 32kWh.
So your 414 gas units are approx. 4,637kWh or 13,248kWh0 -
The 414 was only 11 months worth... The earliest reading that I could get was 31/10/13. So I divided by 11, multiplied by 12, the rounded slightly up for safety to get an annual figure.0
