claim on statute barred

in 2000 i had a student loan and a credit card, they didnt get paid off and the debt went to a 3rd party company, its now passed around various companies like makenzie hall etc and we go through the statute barred dance now and then

anyway

should i try and claim on these? ive no idea what the account numbers etc are, its so long ago

will it have any effect on the claim being statute barred? ie would barclays then inform whoever has it now?

whats the best way about this please?

If there was PPI and it was miss-sold, fairly likely they will just use the repayment against the unpaid debt anyway - unless you paid a significant amount of PPI may be better to let sleeping dogs lie with this one.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Given that you owe money to these lenders, where do you think any successful claim would go?

(Do students not learn about spelling and grammar nowadays?)
  • 1. I dont essentially owe anything to barclays
    2. Would they be linked in any way to the 3rd party debtors? are they not considered seperate products? would I be claiming from the original bank or Aktiv etc?
    3. I dont know, thats why im asking
    4. Spelling and grammar isnt really covered in an International Politics honours but it dont stop be getting a good 2:1 and hasnt really hindered me in other areas of my life

It should be as it hinders your ability to communicate, even if you do not recognise it

Let sleeping dogs lie on the PPI you may or may not have had and move on

Pay your debts in the future

Andrew, part of the "rules" on PPI complaints allow the bank to offset any refund against money they were not paid including money written off. Statute barred does not mean you don't owe the money just that it cannot be enforced any more. If the banks can get the debt back any refund will go against the money you didn't pay back. Remember also that your complaint is about the way it was sold so you would go to the people who sold you the deal.

    Is the correct answer.

It hasn't until this point, perhaps that's where the problem lies?.

I won't humble you by explaining why the debt was left unpaid, I'll simply apologise for rattling your cage by being curious about a potential ppi situation on a forum specifically designed to field discussion on ppi.

Turn that frown upside down! Xx

The reasons for your unpaid debt are irrelevant, I'm afraid.

The crux of the other poster's message (which you ignored in your reply) was that you should forget all about trying to obtain redress on finance you failed to pay in the first place. No one will chase you for this money, I suggest you reciprocate by not chasing a PPI refund.
