Do I need a damp survey?

  • If you put a postcard up against your fan in your bathroom and kitchen and it cannot hold the postcard in place then the fan is not shifting the moisture.
Thank you adamslinger, I tried this on both fans and the card was held in place, which is reassuring.
  • My roof has now been checked, the drainpipes and gutterings are clear. However when the previous owner had fascia boards fitted the roofing felt was not extended to overlap into the guttering. Therefore when it rains the water is possibly going into the fascia boards and running down the walls. I have also been told that the pointing on the brickwork is coming loose in parts, especially on the offending wall and the pointing above the flashing and the flashing itself, around the chimney are not sufficient. The chimney pot is not covered either and needs a ventilated cap.

Any comments as to whether in anyone else's experience, any of this work would help solve my problem would be handy to know. Also, whether it would be worth going back to the surveyor to see if I had a case to say this should have been picked up in the survey?
