Utility heating opinions

We might have time to progress the finish on our utility room over the Christmas break, so need to make some decisions now to have materials available!

We have a 70mm allowance for floor finish and I'll look for some brick look tiles. This leaves us room if we want it to put underfloor heating in. We had not planned heating for this room originally as a boiler that threw off some heat was in there but no longer is.

There is a tumble dryer which we use occasionally through winter which is sufficient to heat the room very well.

Eventually we will lay plumbed underfloor in the adjacent kitchen floor, so could put some in the utility room and leave un used. I expect it would be used VERY rarely though, unlike rest of house)

or we could put some electric underfloor out there.

There is No wall space what so ever for alternative heating though we could hang a heat lamp on ceiling if we opted for no heating but needed it occasionally.

Its a small utility room, housing a large dresser and chest freezer, sink, and washing machine and dryer, and the space between these would be where we'd put heating. I could probably get a photo.

We have never needed any separate heating for the utility room. There is a boiler in there but its high efficiency means that it does not provide any usable heat into the room. There is enough heat drifting in from the kitchen. The big freezer provides some waste heat, as does the washing machine. It never have occurred to me to provide any separate heating when I built the house. I can honestly say that the absence of separate heating has never become apparent in the 36 years since I built the house.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Plinth heater for the very few occasions you'd use it?

  • there's no heating in my utility room but it doesn't seem to need it, I wouldn't bother if it's a small space as the appliances in there will ensure it's not ice-cold.

Thanks, I think that confirms my thoughts that no heating is necessary.

I had not thought of a plinth heater though, maybe that idea has some merit. I shall look into cost for this, thank you for the idea!
