Hi I am interested in reclaiming charges on a packaged account, but since I closed account 2 years ago, I have shredded my old statements. Could I still claim?

What charges did you incur? or do you mean reclaim the monthly fee? It doesnt matter if you dont have bank statements anymore.
They are not refundable just because you ask. You need to demonstrate it was mis-sold e.g if it had breakdown cover and you dont drive or you already had AA cover.0 -
I'd google re-claiming package bank charges and that should take you to the article on MSE that runs through the details on how to do it. I did it with Barclays and started the process by going onto their website and making an online complaint.0

I'm about to embark on reclaiming the monthly bank charges for a black Card Private Account using a reclaim company, my question is around validity of the questions they ask as it has been years (10+)since I took out the package and can't honesty say I remember what was said at the time, is it safe to say ''can't remember''?0

The questions any reclaim company will ask you will usually only be those the bank would ask if you were to make the claim yourself
(All the reclaims company does is pass on your complaint to the bank, and charge you £100's, possibly £1000's for the privilege of passing your complaint on)
Anyway, best to be honest. If you really can't remember, say you can't remember.
But the more info you can supply the bank (via a claims compay if you want to pay someone a load of money just to send on your complaint) the more chance you will have of a succesful reclaim.
If you can't remember what was said when you took this product, how are you hoping to try and claim it was mis-sold at that time?0 -
I phoned Halifax yesterday. My account was closed 5.5 years ago, and I no longer have any of the information or bank statements to go with it.
I called them, gave them my old name and address when I had the account.
They went away and looked up all the account details, phoned me back this morning and offered me a full refund of £1010.0 -
I've sent my claim to TSB. I'd being paying for a silver account since 2006, they phoned me to tell me they will not be refunding the fees as i actually used the account benefits i.e i used the mobile phone cover and AA breakdown service. My claim was for the fact that i was switched to this account and made unaware that a fee free account was no longer available should i pursue this to the financial ombudsman ?0

It depends what your proof is - if you were switched to the fee paying account if TSB can prove they sent you letters and information about the charged account and the fact it was being charged every month (and appearing on all your bank statements) your argument is basically you ignored every bit of correspondence from the bank which is not a miss-sale reason. If you used the phone and AA cover then it proves you knew about it.
You can refer to the FOS within 6 months and you might get a goodwill payment from the bank but nothing in your post says you were miss-sold, not least because they still offered fee-free accounts so it seems unlikely the bank would simply move you onto a fee paying account as you could easily see you were being charged and ask to move to a different one, or move banks.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
