Re cheap energy deals. The only surefire way to know if you're getting the best, companies should publish what they charge per Kwh plus standing charges. Finding out is extraordinarly difficult.

I always thought they did. They even publish a figure to use when you are comparing tariffs with other suppliers which includes the standing charge divided over the number of units you use.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Some are a bit easier than others but they all give tariff and standing charge details (it's usually in a click down called more info or something similar) and a Tariff Comparison Rate which is based on the average of 3200kwh electricity or 13500kwh gas to allow you to compare.
It's better to input your own consumption figures to get a TCR that more accurately reflects your consumption especially if you use significantly more or less than the averageNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Why do we even bother with these one post fools - All suppliers have a license condition obligation to show their rates in a unified format on their web sites. Its called the Tariff Information Label (TIL).
The TIL has a required format and clearly shows the Standing Charge/Unit rate/discouts for each tariff.
All suppliers have an obligation to provide these to you in witting if you request it.
