Please don't base any decisions on DLA being guaranteed for life. Because despite people being told this in the past, benefits and systems chance and when you get tranferred to PIP things may change.
With credit unions you usually need to save with them first before you can get a loan. If you can get items off freecyle/freegle that will make do for now, and start saving with a credit union, then they are more likely to offer a loan a little further down the line.
You can manage with the laundrette for washing clothes in the short term. You need some sort of cooker or a microwave and a fridge for now, that's all. The rest is nice to have but liveable without. I managed with a camping stove and no fridge for months once.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I would be extremely interested in knowing how a leaking washing machine could possibly ruin all the other appliances in a kitchen.
Even if that was the case there is absolutely no need to buy new appliances.
You do seem to be blaming anyone but yourself for your lack of foresight. No property insurance, setting up a business with no market research, no rainy day money, etc.
What were you doing before the evil Government "forced" you to go self employed.
Surely you could still earn some money doing computer maintenance. There must be lots of people who would give their right arm to know someone who could sort their computer problems for them.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

£1500. OP your a Joker. I have bought all the appliances in my kitchen for less than that and in your position buying new would not even cross my mind. Listen to the others in the this thread regarding freecycle etc. People also sometimes sell on ebay for virtually nothing when they want something gone - assuming your able to pick it up.

Is it possible for you to do any work, and/ or your partner? Lots of retailers are looking for staff at the moment.

I will suggest using free-cycle, and trying to save up a little bit weekly.

If I suggest anything else, which normally is more sensible, reinvent and truthful, my post gets deleted.
  • Firstly don't go blaming the government because you opened a business in the wrong area. We run our own business, we work hard at getting the work in, we don't just wait for it to come to us.

Another one confused as to why a leaking washing machine caused these problems.

As for £1500? Totally unnecessary, even new appliances you could get a fridge, cooker and washing machine for under £500. Small fridge £110, Cooker £140, washing machine £160, and that is just from looking on Currys website this morning. Before now when our washing machine broke down I washed by hand for 4 months while saving for a new one.

Another big fan of Freecycle here, you could get everything you need on there.

All you really NEED is a fridge and a microwave to keep you going. in the meantime you could go to the Credit Union with a new request.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

For the OP. Do not go to a loanshark - as most people have said this will be the biggest mistake of your life. Look on the sites suggested - freecycle, buy sell swap sites etc. There should be plenty of items available very cheaply. Getting new is always a great thing, but if you can't afford it you make do with what you can.

I'd also start looking at our incomings and outgoings and look where you can reduce costs. It does sound as if you have an abysmal credit rating, hence why you are getting no help through mainstream lenders.

Lastly, try giving the Money Advice Service, National Debtline, Citizens Advice Bureau and or Stepchange a call to see if they can offer advice how to get you out of your current predicament.
  • So why'd a flood ruin the other appliances? How deep was the water?

£1500 sounds a bit steep. I remember years ago when we first moved in buiyng 2nd hand cooker, fridge, washing macinine. Prob £250 the lot. Bit more now but not £1500.

If you can't find anything on gumtree/freecyle then look for local charity shops that sell appliances, and buy them as you can afford. Will probably cost you less than £100/unit.

Start with cooker, then fridge, then freezer. Winters coming in so your food will probably keep alright, and you can at least feed yourself.

I wouldn't bother with a washing machine - do it by hand in the mean time or try and find a laundrette.
