Ordered Sofa, less than a week later went in a sale. Anything we can do?

Hi all, thanks for reading. First time post.

We ordered a sofa last Thursday (23rd) from House of Fraser and noticed last night on their website it is now 10% cheaper. We would have saved hundreds at this price (we bought several items - chairs etc too).

Is there anything we can do? I know this is such a long shot but for the amount of money involved, thought we should try.

Thanks in advance.

  • You can ask them if they will give you 10% off in a nice polite manner but they dont have to give you it.

Or try and cancel the order and then rebuy it at the discount - though you would have to check to see if it was possible at this point to cancel the order

  • How did you order it? In store or online? What does your contract say about cancellation rights?

To play devils advocate, if they had increased their price within a week do you think they should be able to increase what you have to pay too?

Ordered it in store. And no, you are correct I obviously wouldn't be happy if I had to pay more if they increased the price. I was only asking if there was anything we could do as it would save us a lot of money. Some times there seem to be sneaky loop holes that are in favour of the consumer.
    Just trying our luck really.
  • After checking the cancellation rules, I too would tell them that you wish you had waited a bit longer to place your order and see what they say. Being pleasant and non-entitled can work wonders.

I can't find an actual copy of it, but Googling brings up a few references to their in-store returns policy allowing change of mind returns for 14 or 21 days. If so, there's a good chance you could cancel the order and then buy again at the lower price.

To an extent stores are able to do this.

For instore orders they can cancel the contract and refund the customer before it's delivered. True, they may face a claim for 'loss of bargain', but that seems so difficult to prove that it's incredibly unlikely - and if it happens, all the store has to do is uphold the contract, so there's no financial downside.

For online purchases it's even easier, as they just state the contract isn't concluded until despatch.

This happened to me with amazon.

I bought something and a week later was reduced by a large amount.

I asked them nicely and they said that even though its not their policy they would refund me the difference.

So asking nicely might be all you have to do
