Thursday 30th October - what small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Hello

Thanks for starting the thread CLF. I am a bit late posting as both DDs and 3 little grand daughters came for lunch as it is my birthday
I didn't know they were coming till this morning, so rushed around to take some items to my sales unit and do a bit of shopping before they got here, so I had something the little ones would eat
Had a lovely time, it was so nice to see them all together. The two older children played with the baby so she didn't need entertaining - or watching - as much as usual
They have just gone so I have now collapsed in a heap with a cuppa :rotfl:
Still to do:
Put all the food away and tidy up the dining room. Luckily DD1 brought her little dog, who very obligingly cleared up after baby GD3's lunch leftovers on the floor - the bits she threw down from her highchair. My own dog unfortunately will never do this!
Tidy up GD3's toys which are all over the floor.
Investigate upstairs where the two older ones were probably playing with my sales stock which I STILL haven't put away :rotfl:
Walk dog before it gets dark.
Well, after all that I am absolutely not cooking tonight, so we will either go out for a meal or get a takeaway. Not something I normally do, but I only get one birthday a year (thank goodness )0 -
Thanks for starting us off CLF and Happy Birthday Dawn.
An unusually early post from me today:
Breakfast from stores, lunch out with a group of friends after meeting up at a play centre. Dinner will be left over tuna pasta from yesterday's lunch.
Lovely morning out with friends - got a lift with one for the price of a brew. It wasn't one of these play centres with really over pricey food and drink. The entrance fee is very reasonable too. Had a NSD yesterday, so don't feel too guilty today about spending (I am on holiday after all)
Now back at home, have to admit the heating went on for an hour (very chilly).
Practised DD's face paint for tomorrow's Halloween party
Potted some loose change into my sealed pot
Checked BB and PCL
Still to do:
Tidy up, not been in the house much today, but we've still managed to make a mess!
Do some of DD's homework project
Update spending diary
Check bank
Going to get to DIY storr for some stuff needed for decorating the hall, stairs and landing after dinner - so more spending
Need to meal plan and write shopping list for the upcoming week
Loved my week off so far with DD, we'll both be sad when next week comes.SPC # 348 2014-£169.07/2015 - £156.89

Hi All
Thanks for starting the thread Carrie. Happy birthday Dawn!
Good luck with the Halloween party Getting Organised.
Me today
1. I found a brand new unopened bag of fancy Italian pasta on a wall with a few other bits and bobs. Maybe I'm turning into a Freegan but I don't see why we shouldn't eat it up? Have based dinner around that now so cheesy pasta bake.
2. I found a very discoloured £1 coin that looked more like a penny when I bent to pick it up so bonus! Also found a 5p
3. Walked miles today as had to go to the accountants & attend an appointment at the business. Probably saved £4+ on buses.
4. Found two bus tickets that have McDonald's deals on them. Big Mac+fries for £1.99 we do go into Mcdonalds so why not use them. Normal Big Mac meal is £4.30
5. Wept when I got an email from top cash back that said if you have bought a pumpkin up to the value of £3 then they will refund you once you scan your receipt in. Guess who did just that yesterday and also guess who did the shredding this morning. Grrrrr. .
6. My mum was asking if there is anything my D'S wants for his birthday so I asked for a few new packs of jogging bottoms as embarrassingly he only has 2 pairs that fit him at the moment. Moneysaving in that it means we don't need to provide them.
7. Checked banking.
8. Spent some time planning D'S birthday party. We are having a treasure hunt so am hoping the weather is ok that day. I have been to so many little kids parties recently where the party consists of a hired expensive venue, & a loud OTT kids entertainer. I don't see the attraction personally. Well be having the party tea at home which will be nice but mostly home made including the cake.
9. We are just settling down now to watch a family movie, Tarzan which is free with my library loyalty points. Am so grateful for the extra time with my husband.
think that's it!

Hello Frugal Friends,
Happy Birthday Dawn!
An odd sort of day today trying to get various bits of stuff sorted out before our holiday, but we've still watched the pennies:
*Grocery shopping came in £10 under budget. Have added it to the 'Holiday spends' bag as we're bound to need a top-up of milk, bread, etc, while we're away.
*Went to Co-op to have my photo taken for the competition I won, & collected my prize - £50 voucher. They are currently selling £9.25 bottles of wine half price, so I may suggest we use the vouchers to stock up the wine rack for Christmas. I'll see.
*Baked a loaf of bread, a lemon drizzle cake & a tin of biscuits to take away with us to help keep us out of coffee shops. Will also be taking a packed lunch for the journey & a flask of coffee (mr f finally found the flask lid & cup at the bottom of the camping box.....good job no swear box in the house when we were looking for that!)
*Updated budgets. Had forgotten to budget for cattery fees so was annoyed with myself for the oversight, but we should be ok, as long as I check our online banking regularly throughout November to make sure there are no weird surprises).
*Did laundry overnight on Economy 7 but have had to dry on heated airer as very damp & mizzley today with not even a hint of breeze.
*This may sound tight, but we used to collect postcards & have got loads of lovely ones from the place we're going so we have selected some to take with us to send....it just seemed silly to spend money on probably exactly the same ones!
Oh guess what? mr f has just asked me what I'm doing. I said I'm typing my daily frugal friends post. He said "Well, will you put on it that I bought less holiday beer than I intended'.........every little helps, lol!
Have a nice evening, everyone.
