Cancellation due to pregnancy

Hi there

We were due to go skiing in Feb with a group of 6 people. One of the girls has recently found out she is pregnant and therefore feels there's not much point in her going if she cannot ski.

Would her travel insurance cover her and her partner in this respect? I know its not normally a reason for cancellation, but since it is an active holiday which she will be unable to partake in I though there might be an exception.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this, she is quite annoyed at the prospect of losing over £1000 each.

Mine covers it. Hers might not.

The overwhelming majority do not cover cancellation due to a routine pregnancy. Its seen as self inflicted/ a choice

If there are complications of the pregnancy, its ectopic or preeclampsia etc, then if her doc says shes not fit to travel due to the complications then those would be covered.

I've checked my own and I don't think it does

The policy wording states:
If you become pregnant after we have sold you this policy,
and you will be more than 32 weeks pregnant (or 24 weeks
if you know you are having more than one baby) at the
start of, or during, your trip. Or, your doctor advises that
you are not fit to travel because you are suffering from
complications of pregnancy or childbirth.

Unless I was to get my doctor to say I shouldn't travel.

Must be extra careful in the next few weeks lol!

Yes thats the way mine seems to be.

I'll get her to check her policy, she took out her own insurance with the travel agent I think - we already have an annual policy. Might be worth me maybe getting a single trip that this would be covered for.

Is if you or someone else that's pregnant? You can't insure for something after its happened!

I've seen this a few times in ski resorts when they've gone anyway as they'd lose the money regardless.

Some sat and sulked- others made the most of it meeting the group for lunches at the top of the mountains near cablecars, shopped, had spa treatments and treated it as a relaxing break with socializing in the evening with the rest of the group.

A lot depends on which resort it is though and what facilities are available- as well as their personality and if they are the type to make the best of it or just ruin the trip for everyone else.

No its for one of the others in our group, it has just brought it to my attention that my policy does not cover if between now and Feb that I found myself pregnant. Apologies for the confusion.

This is a good idea, there's enough of us to go round, and I'm sure the girls wouldn't be out all day every day, we could take it in turns to keep her company plus the hotel has great spa facilities which she could make the use of.

Her "baby" will benefit from the clean, pure mountain air.
Sometimes it is a blessing in disguise to not ski in a Ski resort. The mountains are wonderful even if you are not skiing.
