Dell £20 return postage non refundable ?

Hi all,
I ordered a new (cheap) laptop from dell last week and after a complete farce on Tuesday with it not being delivered at the time it was supposed to be it turned up yesterday, again outside specified delivery time which is apparently just an estimate.
The issue I have is that the laptop is such poor quality compared to other models I have seen in shops for similar price. It's slow to use and the edge of the laptop scrapes on my wrist when I use the mouse. The edge is slightly raised so there's no way of avoiding it. The buttons are clunky and the whole feel is just cheap and nasty. I want to return it but Dell charge £20 return postage which is deducted from the original price I paid.
Do I have any chance of getting it back ? There is no way I can keep the laptop it is slower than the 4 and a half year old one I had previously !

The Consumer Contracts Regulations do allow companies to charge for return postage if you return the item due to a change of mind as long as they have supplied you with the required information in durable form.
Those regulations also require them to give you a return address so you can post it back yourself, so if you can find a courier that will do it for less than £20 then you are free to do that.0 -
Thank you,
If I can pay for a cheaper return then I am happy to just do that but if it's a similar price then I'm not because the product is so shoddy. That's the issue, I need a laptop, I want a laptop but what I've brought is just beyond basic and poor quality (in my opinion)0 -
Just remember to check the courier covers you if they lose or damage the laptop. Technically the seller must refund you as soon as you supply them proof of postage, but in practice I imagine most ignore that rule and wait until they receive it back.0

Any reputable courier should supply this without question, but it's always worth checking.
Courier = no proof of postage, this may be the issue if not using the likes of RM.💙💛 💔0 -
Sounds like you have been using it, they can now make a deduction for that as well.0

Is this the £179 Inspiron 15?
If they charge £20 take it, you won't get a decent insured service for less.0
