Cancelled flight due to strike

Where do my parents stand?
They are on holiday in Portugal and and the airline have just confirmed strikes to happen this weekend when they were supposed to fly back on Satuuday the 1st. They have been given an alternate flight for Tuesday the 4th of November. They have travel insurance through Barclays 'Travel Plus Pack'.
If they book an alternative flight coming back before the new scheduled flight, would they receive a refund?
Thanks in advance.

They should ring their travel insurance company - they will explain their options0

Is the airline TAP?
They have the absolute right to re-routing at their earliest convenience, the airline must organise this, it can be on any airline.
So find the best alternative flight and ask to be put on it, record the details of this communication.
If they refuse, advise that they are denying passenger rights under article 8 of EU regulation EC 261/2004 and that you'll be claiming from them.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

They should contact the company that they booked the flights through, rather than the airline unless its the airline they booked through.
When the Mrs Air France flights were cancelled the travel agent immediately rebooked her onto BA with AF picking up the bill - even got both Avios and Flying Blue Miles for each leg0 -
The tickets were bought through the TAP air website. They are going to the airport to see what their options are.0
