Am I the only one who doesn't 'get' Stoptober?

I understand the concept of it, not spending any money, using up your stores etc but am I the only one who thinks it won't save money in the long run as surely you will need to re buy the 'stock' items you have used?
Have I completely missed the point here?
Sorry, I mean the one where you don't spend money on food and use up supplies, not the stop smoking bit, I get how that will save you money! ☺️

Is it to force you to use up all the bits and bobs that you don't normally get around to?
For example, we were given some weird pastas by my OH's Dad for xmas last year. 10 months on and the chocolate pasta is still sitting in the cupboard waiting to be used...!Mortgage when started: £330,995

Chocolate pasta? I never have food around that we don't eat, maybe that's why i don't get it? :rotfl:0 -
Unfortunately not made of chocolate, otherwise it wouldn't have lasted 10 days, let alone 10 months

I think it's just chocolate-flavoured, but we haven't quite felt the need to find out yet :PMortgage when started: £330,995

Saw Nigella using chocolate pasta once, think it was for a pudding or something.
Wouldn't be trying the recipe though, don't like chocolate much.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

I see your point, you're not going to eat less because of it, so it should even out in the end when you buy more later. But, that's not quite how it works for some people. Making more effort to use old stuff up may reduce waste as these items would have gone bad.0

I, personally, have a LOT of stuff in my freezer that's been there ages because I don't know what to do with it and I have heaps of toiletries in the cupboard under the sink that were gifts etc. and I need to find another use for. I've been living out of my freezer using up the stuff I have and it's really saved me money this month and stopped me throwing things away.
I'm a hoarder though, so I guess if you regularly cycle your cupboards it's probably not much use lol!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. I thought Stoptober was actually nothing to do with food but stopping smoking. I know that November is Movember for men to grow moustaches to raise money for prostate cancer. Stoptober is for stopping smoking.0

that's what I am under the impression of too... otherwise stop what??
I think different groups of people put their own interpretation on all these stupid things. I ignore them all.

It's something fun and visible that a man can do - and get paid for doing so. This money then goes to the cancer charity. Seeing men with a moustache that don't usually have one is a visible reminder of Movember and the charity raises its awareness.0 -

Lol, if you think a moustache is bad for prostate cancer, I'd love to know what you think of "fanuary" for ovarian cancer (*ahem* yes! that's lady garden topiary for the uninitiated!)
