Dell Inspiron wont load windows Vista

Hello

I have a Dell inspiron desktop running Vista basic.

All of a sudden it decided to insist on `repairing start up errors.`

After that on boot it gives the option of going into safe mode, safe mode with networking or start windows normally.

none of these options lead anywhere apart from displaying an arrow on a black screen.

I have to suspect a virus but don't really know. So I'm stuck.

Thanks.

Personally i would load onto your pen drive a version of malwarebytes,Superantispyware and Avast from a different computer.turn off the computer that has the trouble and then when it comes back on as you get the flash screen press F2 and change the boot order so that it allows it to boot from the pen drive.turn off and place your pen drive into a USB port and restart.....Locate the programs on there and run them, good luck.

You can create a Rescue disc. Do you have another machine from which to do so?

Also, there is a Service Tag written at the back of the machine. What is it?
  • Hello and thanks.

Yes, I have a laptop with disc read writer.

I cant see anything on the back of the machine which obviously says service but there is a model number CMXV33J (27508521583)

    and fcc number.

how can I copy a version of malwarebytes to disc?
  • Thanks for replies.

Problem cured by going back to Dell factory settings.

Have lost a few photos and some other data but machine is up and running (typing on it with this).

Vista updates are a nightmare mind-about 7 years of them.
