~~You need to do somthing but I would forget and not get stuck on the idea of getting a "free" boiler.
I'm now trying for the green deal loan as it seems the second best option. It just annoys me that the well advertised best moneywise option is giving me so much grief and proving very very hard to get. If the first or second time I'd applied they'd said: "You don't qualify because.." or "This scheme isn't what you think due to..." then I'd suck it up and deal with it another way.captainhindsight wrote: »I think the confusion is over the scheme . There Is no free boiler scheme and never has been, the scheme has been designed to help towards the capital costs and in some circumstances this has covered the full cost.
The installer get paid a price per unit of energy saved, this price fluctuates and the amount saved varies from house to house and the amount of work required varies from house to house. this means if your lucky you may get a free boiler, but the reality is you or the landlord should have to make a small contribution which is not unreasonable and is very helpful for someone with not much money.
Also to people who have moaned about wasted tax payers money, this scheme is not funded by tax payers it is paid for by the biggest 9 energy companies. So you can choose not to pay in the pot by choosing a smaller energy company
I understand full well I have to contribute, (although the cost has varied considerably which is interesting). You're absolutely right that I'm confused over the sceme and why it doesn't seem to be working in my case. If it's down to the energy companies themselves paying though.. well perhaps that explains why it's so hard to get.0 -
maybe i could advise you i am an expert in this field.0

I'm afraid that's how these schemes work, once the money runs out it's gone.
The green deal might be a good option, if an efficient boiler can be fitted and the repayments are less than the savings you make on your energy bill you would essentially be getting it at no extra cost. Your father may agree to pay you a bit towards it via a lower rent, since the new boiler would be increasing the value of his house.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Well amazingly the install got done finally!
I had to threaten them with a lot of bad publicity, letters to newspapers and various agencies but they backed down and did it, (without any cost at all), in the end...
They took 3 days, (and it was a nightmare for them I have to admit), but they gave us a nice boiler, fitted TRVs to all the radiators, installed all the thermostat controls, motors and stuff and replaced pipework where needed and finally bled the radiators properly.
The house is warm, I'm happy, the landlord's happy and everything is good. E-on came through for us in the end and I'm likely to stick with them for a while because of it. :-)0 -
Must be they have some new quotas to fill.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Great news but don't let it stop you from playing the switching game to get the best price.
Hopefully one day in the not too distant future energy will be renationalised and end the ridiculous marketing and switching merry go round.0
