Double glazed window fitted with a large crack!

My installers fitted a window knowingly with a large crack. Has anyone had this happened to them. Surly, the window should have gone back to the manufacturer?

I'm waiting for a panel to be fitted and I'm going to make a complaint.

I'm just flabbergasted. I thought I'd picked a reasonable company.

No they are not getting paid until it is fixed.

So what did you want them to do leave a gaping hole in your house wall ??
Common sense would say to me that they put the window in with the crack & they will be having a replacement made to be fitted at a later date.

did they know about the damage before removing the old frame?

i would suspect even if they did know they have just gone ahead and fitted the window and glazed it with the broken glazing unit

they will order a replacement glazing unit and one man can call and fit the new unit in minutes on his own, get the main installation completed and then rectify the broken unit when a new one arrives

I would have hope they would have turned up with a window that was of a satisfactory standard. Ie not broken before they removed my old window!

Yes they did know of the damage before moving the old frame, which I find quite unacceptable.
I know it will get resolved, but it is sad that such a poor standard of service can be given.
I have written a complaint to them.

Part of me understands why they continued with the install in that they probably had the time booked out for their fitters to complete the job, and the glass could have been fine until they got it out of the van on arrival - much easier to come back later and refit the replacement unit - a one man job.
Annoying, maybe, but if they sorted it without argument, I wouldn't be taking time to write a complaint, but that's your choice of course!
  • Happens all the time, yes there's a crack but does it cause yourself any inconvenience?
They could of put a piece of ply in place, making your room dark and unsightly, would be happy with that?
The window could be fitted at a later date once the glass has been made, would you be happy with that?
Many companies would fit the window using the cracked unit, it then just leaves a 5 minute job once the new glass unit is ready.
Admittedly the fitters should have told you beforehand
