    Thanks Guys

Liking the Sash Jammers - great idea and good for extra security!

Well, you really can't add much more security than a set of SJ's on every opening sash, but remember
"er indoors" will leave them all OFF, cos she want's some air in
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Resurrected to add that sash jammers are a helluva lot stronger if you use jack nuts and Araldite too. Araldite stops thieves from wiggling the screws loose.

Chris, unfortunately those are only Yale's 1* rated cylinders. Whereas you need 3* rated cylinders to be genuinely anti-snap. Yale's Platinum cylinder is 3* rated, but there are better quality cylinders for similar money: I think Kaba pExtra Guard might be the best now, followed by Avocet ABS and Mul-T-Lock XP. (Though I'd be interested what the locksmiths on here think.)

However, Yale Platinum is almost the only 3* choice if you've got a 30/30 cylinder.

Or if you have security handles (Security Handles + 1* lock = 3*), as you can't get at the lock.

I went with these plus security handles as it was a better solution for the risk factors etc for us at the time / location. The ABS don't need security handles as they will sacrificial cut if broken. Just be aware you won't be able to get in the door if the 2nd sacrificial cut goes as it'll block the cam.
  • We made the mistake of buying an Ingersoll SC100 nightlatch from Mul-T-Lock,

It is rubbish. It does not release the internal handle properly and can lock you in.

Or it can lock you out.

    It has never worked properly.

Worse, Mul-T-Lock make it to a pattern that means you are stuck with buying one of their rubbish products to replace it or a whole new door.

We wish we had paid a little extra and bought a Banham lock.

Magpiecottage, that lock's made by Ingersoll. Mul-T-Lock just make the cylinder for it. If the cylinder was faulty, it's easy to replace yourself. Mul-T-Lock is known for good quality, so you may have been unlucky. Though I wonder if the issue was actually the Ingersoll lock itself.

How old was the lock? Did you use an appropriate lock lubricant every 6-12 months?

Banham locks are great, but mega-expensive. For high quality, I'd look to Evva, Kaba and Bramah.
... you are stuck with buying one of their rubbish products to replace it or a whole new door.

If you don't like the Mul-T-Lock cylinder, there are alternatives for your particular lock, e.g. Evva EPS SC1.
