Hi Dew, are they saying that they are definately going to plaster these rooms?
have they taken any paper off first and seen how bad the walls are? or are not?
Its seems a hell of a lot of money to me.
There is a few plasterers on this site who give cracking advice, nelly, jason and a few others who I'm sure will be able to advise you better.
There is no mention of the ceiling tiles either.
Are you sure the price is not a misprint??????
Have you gone round the rooms and taken any paper off yourself?, try and do that, go to different parts of the walls, and try and get some of the paper off, and you might get an idea whats underneath.
I am in shock at this price, what price have they given you, if they dont plaster?
TBH Dew, its either so bad that they dont want the job, and have given an over the top price to put you off, or they are chancers thinking your a soft touch.
Dont think about pulling out of buying the house yet, there is something not about this price, wait till you hear from the OP on here first, before you do anything drastic.0 -
Thanks Misgrace
I have talked to one neighbours and he said that i can rip the wallpapers off myself and do most of the prep work. So I am keeping that option open, though working after coming back from office doesn't entice me too much!!:D
When he said the quote on phone i thought there is some mistake, but after receiving the same in post, am pretty sure there isn't a mistake.
I have yet to ask them the breakdown of the same (just for the laugh)..:j
if only you had some time available in the diary!!! Anyway will keep asking my good sensible questions:beer:0 -
YES !
There are a lot of of Highland Dancers ( chancers ) around, who go around quoting crazy money, in the hope that some STOOPIT people will take them on :rolleyes:0 -
 £14.500  nearly fell off me chair then :rotfl: i would give that quote a WIDE berth and just laugh it off. To re-skim an average size 3 bed house is usually about £2500-£3000, maybe a bit more if some of the backing coats need repairing and depending on where you live in the country(where abouts are you?) And a friend of mine is a painter and on average he charges about £3000 for an entire house including all woodwork. i would seriously shop around and get a few more quotes.Try a plasterer and a painter, and not have one bloke do all the work, see if that comes out cheaper( and im sure it will;) )

Are you in North London? We were quoted £15,000 for decorating our 2 bed flat (removing wallpaper, re-line and paint).
We ended up doing it ourselves. Good luck mate.0 -
I live in north london (Harrow to be precise)!!! I did get another quote and it is about £4600 and includes a fair bit of work:
1. Remove wallpapers
2. Plaster ceilings.
3. Paint all the walls and ceilings.
4. Sand, gloss all woodworks.
5. Combine bathroom and WC (as in break wall) and install new bath, shower , WC and basin
6. Tile the bathroom to ceiling and floor.
7. Create a WC downstairs, tile it complete.
8. Supply all paints (was suprised when he said he will use Dulux only).
Am quite impressed with the guy as he explains everything. I just need to verify the quality of work he does!!!
I will be very happy if the quality of work is as good! But I can't go wrong a this price!!:beer:0 -
Glad you got it sorted dew :T0
-
Thanks jason. I will be sorted when the work is done to good standard Just for info. the other guy was asking £19K for the same job so i don't know really where the difference comes from and what will be missing.0
-
As mis said a few tradesman well over price jobs because either the dont want them or they try there chances.0
-
I knew it. You're not far from me. They try it on, don't they. They look at your post code and try to rip you off. The new guy sounds more reasonable, good luck mate.0
