Hi
Another newbie so patience please. We'd love to switch our electricity supplier, (no gas in our village). Our current provider is SSE and we're on the "M&S Energy Standard Economy 10" tarriff. Unfortunately I can't find this tarriff on the MSE website. At the moment, we have an immersion heater, (mains fed water heater), which we use mostly in the summer. During the winter we have a multi-fuel stove, which heats our water and powers our radiators, so the electric is used for lighting, cooking and TV etc during this period. Can anyone suggest how to join in and switch please?

Which Switch seems to have MSE Energy as one of its companies. That said, it is largely irrelevant if you have some idea of your annual usage in kWhs for gas and electricity. Just enter your projected usage and post code and it will list tariffs for you to consider.

Economy 10 tariffs are very uncompetitive and probably won't appear on many switch sites.

As you don't use electric for your heating I'd consider changing to economy 7 or even a single rate tariff.

The downside of economy 10 & 7 is that you pay a premium for your peak electricity use (so anything in the day pretty much), so I doubt with just a hot water cylinder that an economy tariff is right for you.
  • OP, I think your problem is the Economy 10 tariff. Not all suppliers (perhaps only a few?) support it.
Your only recourse is to get the meter changed to either an E7 or standard one.
However you describe that in winter you usage is classed as normal, ie no heating or hot water. So you need to do some working out to see if E10 or E7 is correct for you.

    Doh, beaten to it!

Most of the big 6 offer e10, but you'll need to ring them each to gain quotes and then compare them.

Actually you should be able to find the prices on each suppliers website using each suppliers TIL (tariff information label) lookup.
