Dead Nexus 7

My daughter's 18 months old Nexus 7 hasn't been used for about a month and will not now turn on.
I have looked online for a fix and tried the various button holding combinations which have not worked.
I went through the troubleshooting routine on the Google website (which didn't work) and left my phone number in the field provided for a call which has not been forthcoming.
Does anyone know of a way to sort this problem before I start what I expect will be a difficult job of trying to get a replacement.
Forgotten but not gone.

Mine had the same problem and I found that I had to leave it charging overnight before it would turn back on. Make sure you use the original charger and not the lead connected to a laptop!

Try the hard reset method once you are sure battery is fully charged:

If your device is completely unresponsive.

    1. Press the power button and both volume keys for several seconds. The computer screen will eventually blink off. Continue to hold until you see the Android recovery logo and the large Start selection at the top of the screen.
    2. Move the volume keys up and down to see the menu selections. If you don’t want to factory reset, you can try to Power down or to Restart bootloader from these selections. The power key will select the option.
    3. If you are forced or desire to factory reset and wipe the device, select Recovery Mode. Your device will reboot. This reboot will be much slower than normal.
    4. When you see the Android with red triangle, hold the power button down and press the volume up key until the wipe data/factory reset option appears. Press the power button to select it. Remember that this will erase all the data on your device.
    5. With the volume keys select Yes – erase all user data and again press the power button to select this option.

Usually, the problem is a rogue app sucking all the juice out of the battery, causing the Nexus to drain very quickly. They are then notoriously difficult to power up after this quick drain.
When you get it up and running again, check all the apps installed for any that may be causing a heavy power drain. Uninstall any dodgy apps.
Beware rogues, scoundrels and cowboys. We will hunt you down, then expose and eradicate you from our daily lives.

  • The battery plug has come out due to a slight knock.

Does it show it charging if not I think that's the issue.

Try to confirm this by knocking the device top left into left hand palm a few times and then see if it turns on.

    If so follow these instructions.

I made the mistake of letting mine run flat and it wouldn't turn on. I followed a web guide - almost certainly this official google one...

    https://support.google.com/nexus/troubleshooter/3337561?hl=en#ts=3337942,3339328

I remember this part of the procedure...
1 Unplug the USB cable from the power adapter and use it to connect your Nexus device to a computer’s USB port while the computer is on and connected to a power source.

2 After 10-15 minutes, disconnect the USB cable from your Nexus device and reconnect it within 10 seconds.

3 After 1 minute, check to see if a battery icon appears on the screen.

4 Press & hold the Power button for at least 15 seconds to see if your device turns on.

Despite that sounding like arrant BS it got mine going again.

Start at the beginning of that troubleshooter not the bit I highlighted.

    Good Luck

Try giving it a deep charge with a different USB charger and cable, then doing the 20 seconds voldown and power combo, then deep charging again, etc. I brought my wife's back from the dead like this - and I think the battery level calibration had decalibrated, so it was running on fumes but thinking it had a full tank. Anyway, it finally flickered back to life after all fo this, showing 0% battery, but now it's as good as new, didn't even need a full wipe.

In short DON'T GIVE UP :-)
