Virgin media price rise, Please help!

On the 16th of this month I received a bill from virgin media with an additional cost of £1.50. I know its not much but after a big mess around with virgin media last year, were they kept overcharging me. I only agreed to renew my contract when told that there would be no price increases. I rang up virgin media tonight and explained that I wanted to end my contract with them as I had lost faith in their service. They explained that they sent a letter out on the 24th last month telling me about the increase, this I did not receive. The first I became aware of an increase in my bill was the 16th of this month when my bill arrived. Their was no explanation on my virgin media account why there was an increase nor any notification via my email. I was told that I could not cancel my contract as the 30 days since apparently notifying me was up and informed me that their would be a £120.00 charge. I am still paying for broadband that I do not want and after being accused of being a liar, I was not told how I could take this further. I'm really confused what to do or if I have a leg to stand on.

pm me your mailing address and I'll send you 1.50 each month to cover the price rise.
On a serious note though, companies are going to screw you over on occasion and they probably have it worked into the Ts and Cs. It is only 1.50 extra and really not worth getting high blood pressure for. I would recommend checking your contract. If it is advised in there that prices might increase then fair play. If it is not advised in there then point that out to cx service and hassle them relentlessly.
Whilst the agent might have told you that no prices would go up, this was likely a newer member of staff who just wanted to get rid of you OR you mis-interpreting something they said. You are actually allowed to request a transcript (might cost you some money) so you could also do this and present any such evidence. I doubt they would bother to otherwise assist you here.0 -
When something like this happens to me its not the small amount that gets to me, it the principle of it!
Whenever Virgin inform me they are increasing my prices I phone up and complain, and they generally apply some 'discount' so I don't pay for the price rise at all!0 -
Just been through something similar with them (mine is £50 a month) never got any letter saying it was being increased until I checked my bank and saw how much they had taken.
I phoned and told them I wanted to cancel, they tried to talk me out of it, I stood my ground and eventually it was arranged to be cancelled next month after the payment had gone out.
Then they decided to bug the heck out of me by phoning every day and asking me to reconsider.
If you haven't already, ask to speak to someone higher up than the call centre workers, that's how I got mine cancelled.0 -
If you're thinking of switching elsewhere, bear in mind that all the other companies are putting up their prices as well.
They are like the energy companies - once one puts up their prices, all the others follow a few weeks later. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
