Hermes Courier lost my parcel

Hi all , just wanted ask where i stand regarding a parcel that i sent which is now lost?
I sold an item on e-bay for £370.00 and used hermes courier to send the parcel.
I only used their standard insurance for upto £50.00 compensation and now the parcel has not arrived to the recipitent & they have told me it is lost and sent me a claims form.

Am i correct that i should re-fund the buyer the full amount , and wait for my compensation of £50.00 from Hermes.

I will still be £320.00 out of pocket, so wondered if there is anything else i can do.

I have never had an issue with Hermes before, but i so wish i had insured the parcel for the full amount in hind sight.

Nope nothing you can do , have MyHermes confirmed it is definitely lost or could it still be stuck somewhere?

Hopefully it's not one of those situations where if you underinsure then they won't pay out at all.

They have classed it as lost and sent me a claims form.

Although on the status / tracking info it still says - Out with the recipitents local courier for delivery (dated 22/10/14 @ 5.26am)

Hermes have informed me that the local courier never collected the item to deliver and dont know where it is now?

And it gets worse that it was not a signed for parcel..

Oh why did i do that ..

I cant believe it , woke up this morning and checked the tracking again.
To my surprise its been updated to today's date and time , still says out with the recipients local courier for delivery .
I contacted them and they said its awaiting pick up form courier ,
Amazing !!
But its not over yet , the latest tracking said its delayed and transit ?

They have informed me it will be delivered tommorrow due to delays in traffic today,
I so hope this is true ,
I'll definately go insured and signed for in future , i promise & fingers crossed for tomorrow, please , please , please....

Waited all day yesterday in aticipation hoping it would be delivered ,

emailed them, phoned them , checked the tracking every hour or so,

They kept telling me , its on its way, then driver is delayed , then wont be delivered due to traffic problems?

Done the same thing all day today, the tracking system was down so i kept e-mailing & phoning, they told me the same thing, its on its way , its with the courier, please give untill 8.00 pm,

I called just before 8.00pm, they put me on hold & tried to call the courier - no anwser ! I aske dfor the couriers number, not allowed to give me it, i asked where the depot is - they cant tell because the system is down!
They said call back tomorrow morning and they will tell me.

This becoming a nightmare now, i dont know if they are just leading me on or what, when i first called they said it was lost and sent me claims form which i returned & its still in process.
Now since then they said it will be delivered , but every day its not! And they keep telling me this and that .
I just dont know now ....
