Disabled parent

Have you considered asking the school to put out a message explaining the problem. There may be other parents who routinely drive their children to school or even a staff member able to help. You could get lucky.
Try http://www.dppi.org.uk/ http://www.disability-grants.org/
Or maybe Citizens Advice for info on suitable charities and or legal advice.
It seems grossly unfair of the LA to refuse to help with the costs- are you confident that they have taken all the circs into account (ie your need to move due to disability.) It seems fundamentally unfair and unreasonable not to take into account the reasons why you are now outside catchment- those reasons are directly related to your disability and thus surely should rightly be taken into account? An expert in disability discrimination might be able to find a hole in the LA arguments/policy.
I had never thought of thinking about the disability discrimination side of it that is a really good idea.
We are a very small village and three other children from here go to the same school as my children, they pay for their tickets and from what I can gather they always have.
When they turned us down at appeal they list all the reasons why as a parent I think we should continue to get free transport.
Under the listing about my disability I listed that I can't be left alone for long periods as I need regular attention this includes dealing with toileting needs, delivery of medication and suction. they actually said these reasons were not good enough to warrant a change in the original decision.
I went on to say that I need a specially adapted house and the difficulties involving finding such a property, they said before moving I should have considered the implications................I will admit I probably should, but in all honesty when after years of being carried and dragging yourself around a house to be able to move around under my own steam I didn't consider it.
I have found a charity that may be able to help so keeping everything crossed. But will definitely go down the discrimination route.
Thank you again0
