People using my address for car insurance

Hi, living in a cheaper postcode for car insurance I have had 2 letters now about someone taking out car insurance using my address. Having lived here for 30 years, it's not someone who's previously lived here.
The car shows up in askMID as insured ... at my address I guess!
I have informed the insurers and police, but my question is ...
How to I find out what other insurances may have been taken out using my address other than my own 2 cars???
Seems like we need to be able to do this ...
Thanks

Are they using your name or just your address? All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

There is no way of you personally checking.
The MID does hold the address of the policyholder as per http://www.mib.org.uk/Motor+Insurance+Database/en/MID+Faqs/What+information+does+the+MID+hold.htm but this isnt searchable either by you nor a normal claims handler. The MIB who operate the MID obviously could. Its unlikely an insurer would as they'd just check their own records rather than being reliant on the MID as they'd not be overly bothered if their competitors are being defrauded.0 -
Did you receive paperwork for a full application or just some spam because someone got a quote?
If someone was thinking of moving to your area they might have used a comparison website and entered your address.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Lots of people do quotes with neighbours addresses to avoid getting too many hits when they do apply for real.
Unless its actually policy documents then no need to worry, If its policy documents i would contact the insurer and let them know nobody with that name lives at your address and you have no idea who the vehicle belongs to.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I did a comparison using a nearby postcode as my road didn't have a postcode at the time (new road).
Not ideal, but didn't seem to be a way to get an idea of likely costs with a house move.PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)0 -
No documents came, but they used their own name and car reg (A X reg'd series 1 BMW!). One says the bank details were wrong, the other was from LV asking if he really lived here?
Both said they had issued policies to this person.
It does seem a little remiss that there's no way I can check how many potential other scams have been done on my address.
Maybe I won't know until a claim is made????

When the letters arrive you will know how many scams they have tried.
Just make sure you contact any companies and tell them to cancel the policy.
If its always the one vehicle or the same couple then report them to the police saying check their insurance because it wont be legal.
I had someones insurance paperwork sent here. Brand new property so nobody else had ever lived here.
I opened it and found details of someone that used to live down the street and moved away. I had all their personal details. Phone numbers, Bank details, Earnings. etc etc.
They were shocked when i phoned and they said they thought the paperwork was taking a while to come.

The insurance companies said it was for the same car, the X reg'd BMW series 1. Google research on his name shows up just one person (it's a very unique name!). Done for being part of a shoplifting gang, also is a director of a dubious company (not filed accounts, county court judgements etc).
Told the police, but because the person probably lives in a different area (West Yorks vs N. Yorks), they can't/won't take action other than to pass it onto the central crime unit run by the Met, and then it's up to the central unit to take action if they see fit to do so.
It may be that they are just doing a round the insurance companies thing to get a few weeks insurance at a time until it's cancelled by the company. This way the askMID will always show that it's insured, but probably never is/was, and so any scan by police will check out OK.
I just worry it's my address used each time, and in the end some bad mark will end up on the house and then cause me problems in the future.
Of course, the name of the person getting this insurance may also be fake, and so we will never know who it is. Even the reg plate may be fake and/or cloned.
Just seems strange to go through all this to get insurance for quite an old car? Maybe it's to sell it on as maybe it would seem more "legitimate" if the owner showed he had tax and insurance for it.
All in all, it does seem to be dodgy.
I suspect the insurance companies can search on address and find out who's got what insured at that address???

I have the same situation - about 10 over 18 months - different names, different insurers. Arriva appointed a insurance investigator - several addresses in my road are being used in this way.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Have you spoken to the police in the area where the guy lives? 101 will put you through to the Duty Sergeant at any police station in the country (call charges apply) Sometimes, when you report someone, they're keen to know more if the person is already known to them.0
