Venetian blinds - what/where/how

Looking for venetian blinds, large wood slats, but the window is very wide - 240cm across with 160cm drop - so concerned that wood would be too heavy to operate easily.
Not keen on metal, unless it's changed from the old clanging aluminium that my grandparents had. Are there any other materials to consider? Faux wood tends to be cheaper than wood, but apparently heavier so would make the problem worse.
We could span the window with two sets of 120cm blinds, but I'm not sure I'd like that look, and we'd have a 1cm gap in the middle of a pane of glass.
And where to buy from? Many online places have 50-75% discount sales at the moment, meaning we could get something from £130+, which seems a pretty good deal to me.

I have wooden blinds; made of ramin (or something very similar) purchased from one of the sheds. They hang inside the window recesses and are 1.2m wide and about the same drop (slats are 3cm). They are quite heavy (and are excellent at collecting dust).
I would have thought that if you can source a blind of the scale you're talking about it will likely be a beast to operate. Two half width blinds might look ok but it sounds like you don't have a mid-point to act as a natural 'break' in the run (the gap in the middle might be greater than 1cm too).
Fixing might be an issue. I would be looking to confirm that you can actually secure the blind in your chosen place; getting to the last bracket and finding a lintel isn't much fun. Pulling the blind up and bringing the lot down, ditto.0 -
Timber or natural materials hold up best. Timber, in particular, holds heat well and also looks great. When closed, it blocks out heat and light very well from outside.0

Thanks, yes 'beast' is a good way to describe it, I think it would just be too unwieldy. There are companies that would supply a blind that big, but it's the absolute maximum length for their wood blinds.
Still checking out other materials, but wood would be great, so solution might be two 120cm blinds and I'll just have to try to ignore any slats that don't happen to line up EXACTLY with their neighbour.0 -
Have you thought about shutters?0
