sending to Australia

Hi

Didn't know where to post this, if someone can point me in right direction of where's best to post this that would be appreciated.

Anyway, I'm looking to get as cheap quote as possible to send 20 football shirts to Australia. So far I have looked at royal mail and the cheapest tracked service I could find costs £95. That's with the weight at 2.5 kg (it might weigh more than that)

Does anyone know of a cheapish service to use that's reliable and offers compensation. I know its not going to be mega cheap to send there but hoping to get something cheaper than £95.

Thanks

To enable to parcel gurus to do their thing you'll need to know the exact weight and packed dimensions- as well as the level of insurance cover you need.

I use http://worldwide-parcelservices.co.uk/ and a parcel weighing 6kgs 30x30x40 is approximately £80 with insurance. It goes with either DHL or UPS and it takes 2-4 days depending on where they live.

Of course, you could split them down and send them Airmail but it is not a lot cheaper to do this and they could get lost.

I've used a lot of couriers to Australia over the years and WPS by far offer the best service and the prices are cheaper from what I have found, I send out there at least once a month.

DO NOT USE PARCEL MONKEY!! They will charge you more later (in my case, £25-£30 on each box - and I sent 5 - Grrrrrr).

The customs limit for goods into Australia is AUS$1000, keep the value under this and the recipient will not get charged and fees the other end.

I send something to Oz on a Friday, it arrived on their Monday - quicker than some of the 1st Class mail I sent in the UK - go figure!!!!
  • I regularly use http://www.parcel2go.com/ where you just input your requirement once, and it offers a large range of carriers. You can book right there and then. A rough quote for what you are sending comes out with a lowest quote of about £40, but that's only for £50 compensation level.
I send stuff to a friend in Australia, and usually end up with a price about half of Royal Mail.

Worldwide parcels are a broker just like P2G but are usually cheaper than P2G for longhaul destinations. Also, do the sums for splitting into 2 boxes and using RM Airmail, it may cost in.

Try that site, they compare the companies listed above and quite a few more.

    Thanks for the responses folks.

Mrs Sparrow, would you know if there is likely to be any other charges. Ie customs or other things once its over there?

Its just 20 second hand football shirts valued at about £300.

    Thanks

Make sure your Australian buyer isn't using a PO Box, which is very common over there.

Couriers do not deliver to PO Boxes and Royal Mail won't deliver to PO Boxes on a Signed For service.

We are talking about Australia - and they don't.

If you try to send to a PO Box overseas the item will be returned as 'undeliverable - addressee has PO Box'

    http://www.royalmail.com/personal/international-delivery/international-tracked-signed

'International Tracked & Signed or International Signed items cannot be sent to PO Boxes and delivery points where there is no-one to sign for the item.'
