What model car was it? A lot now have a sacrificial lip under the front bumper.

Saying that £500 seems stiff I had my daughters Lexus Is ( a real one) :p front bumper replaced and painted for £250 all in. After she tried to remove a Tesco car park kerb with it.

Or one high ramp, which I need to go over to drive to my mothers front door.

Went to see a house earlier in the year which had a steep driveway and the car bottomed out going in and out so that became an instant no.

Similarly there are a few carparks where you have to go down the ramps at no more than 5mph otherwise it will scrape

I think you know what I drive II (I know I've posted that here before), and all I can say is that I'm glad it doesn't have the sport suspension or it'd be even lower.

Whenever popping over there, if I need to be at the door (to drop/remove something heavy etc) I try to take OH's Yeti, as the higher ground clearance is brilliant :D

  • esmerobbo is correct in saying that there is some form of underbody protection built into modern cars, so any scraping should be considered as wear and tear in this area.
A dent in a door or bonnet would be cosmetic, and from a resale point of view would lower the car's value. Scraping to the underside of the bumper shouldn't affect the car's value. Personally, I have never been petty enough to haggle on price when buying a used car, due to cosmetic imperfections which require getting on hands and knees to spot.

I'm wondering if the customer service people get some sort of commission for bringing the damage clause into play. Maybe someone in the rental industry would be brave enough to enlighten us :lipsrseal
