Email Alias

I have a Hotmail account fbloggs@hotmail.com with a display name Fred Bloggs. I've just set up an alias joesoap@outlook.com, but when I send an email from that alias it's listed in the inbox as from Fred Bloggs, thereby defeating the whole point of the alias!

Can I set a different display name for each alias, or set it to display the alias address so that I don't have to set the display name to "xxxx xxxxxx"

EDIT: Scratch that, I've just discovered the help forum with a lot of others making the same complaint!

I had a similar problem when I wanted to use an anonymous name. Other than creating a new email account, I decided to change my account name to something which probably can't be printed here, as a pointless, but satisfying gesture to Microsoft.
Not sure what anyone else receiving an email from that account would think though.:D
  • I have a separate account with an anonymous name, but it has the nuisance of having a separate inbox. I've just set the display name to A.User.
  • Poor old Joe Soap now can't get an Outlook email address :(

The likes of hotmail and gmail are trying to stop people using aliases or nicknames.

Don't know if this is any use to you or not?

These were some sites for anon emails in or out, though I doubt they'd be anon from the Alphabet spooks or the Plod.

    IN

    http://mailcatch.com/en/disposable-email
    http://www.mailinator.com/
    http://www.mintemail.com/
    http://trashmail.net/

    OUT

    https://www.sharpmail.co.uk/anonymous_email.html
    http://anonymouse.org/anonemail.html

Don't know if they're all still good, as the info's probably a few years old now.

Nope....You can use whatever name you like in google and hotmail.
Google changed the requirement, which was mainly aimed at G+ way back in July...It only lasted a short while due to protest.
Gmail doesn't offer Alias but has a workaround. https://support.google.com/mail/answer/12096?hl=en

To be fair, very few people will actually believe that your real name is Fred Bloggs so you probably don't need an alias. Happy to help!

The names of my accounts are not really fred blogs or joe soap, any more than my real name is jack pott. Did you think I was going to put the real addresses on here?

Just possible I may have realized that and my reply was supposed to be humorous.
