The landlord should have buildings insurance. You should only need to get contents insurance.0

So my contents will still be covered if, for example, the roof leaks and damages my stuff or my PC is damaged by a power cut? Even if I don't get home emergency cover?
Sorry if this is a dumb question.0 -

Home Emergency is to deal with things like if you suddenly find raw sewerage coming up from your kitchen sink or the boiler stops working. In almost all cases these are things that you landlord should be dealing with for you. The only possible exception is if the workman that repair it say the drain was blocked due to your negligence (eg flushing nappies down the toilet) then the landlord may have some comeback on you for the cost.
Your stuff being damaged is not covered by Home Emergency, its about making sure the home is habitable (basically). So if there is a storm which damages the roof then the Landlords building insurance would cover replacing the roof and your contents would cover anything that was damaged by the rain that got in. It may be that Home Emergency cover is used to do the initial temporary repair job to stop further damage being done whilst the full repair is arranged.0 -
Thank you very much for your help.
The best part is, I've just saved £85 on my contents insurance
