New dress worn for few hrs, but it's seemed to snag in a few places. Can I return?

Hi, bought a dress from lipsy at next for a family birthday meal. Worn for max 4 hrs but when I came home I noticed its snagged right at the front in 2 places and at the back. It's snagged on a black patch of the dress and it's left a white stripe nearly halfway down the front.

The dress was £97 and as I've a few occasions coming up I could wear it to all but I can't now. I've no idea what caused the snags as I was only sitting eating a meal really. I've never even had a pr of tights snag so easy.

Anyway. Do you think I could return the dress as I don't think it should do this really? Ive never returned an item of clothing before so not sure what's acceptable really.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You can try but if it's clear that it's been caught on something then this is accidental damage and wont be covered.

No disrespect and playing devils advocate, they will assume carelessness, who knows whether you got drunk and were rolling about the floor or not.

Again in reality it can only snag if something catches on it to snag it.

What kind of fabric is the dress made from?
I think it would be very difficult to prove that it snagged because of a defect, and not because you'd caught it on something.

Thanks I imagine you are right, it's made from a polyester and elastine mix and dry clean only. On closer inspection it's got a bit of snagging round the stitching on the neckline too. Im gutted cz I only wore it out to dinner and I really got it for a family wedding coming up in November. I think I will bring it back to next anyway to show them as I am really disappointed. I can't even imagine what would've caught on it as the The jewelry I wore wouldn't have done it.
    Thanks for your advice x

Very possibly from the underside of the table as quite often that area can be a little rough and not as well finished. I've done it myself several times as I've crossed my legs and scraped them against the wood. You may well be able to smooth the snag back out by stretching the fabric and teasing the fibre with a very fine pin. Any remaining part of the snag can be pushed through to the reverse of the fabric.

Your bag maybe? Got a dress from next with snags on side of hip where I must've been holding my clutch bag... gutted :-(
