Hi,
I used to work for a UK laptop company and I'm sorry to say a new screen is the most expensive replacement part of a laptop. You're probably looking at £200-£300 fitted. You could buy the screen yourself off places like ebay but unless you're real good at fiddly jobs and extremely careful I'dnot recommend trying to fit it yourself.0 -
Time for a new laptop methinks.
You can still use it via the external monitor connection on the back. That will allow you to get any data etc off it.
There are some cracking deals on Dell laptops at the moment - you can get a 120Gb, 15.4, dvd rewriter, years warranty, gig of ram for under £300, check back in the 'quick grabbit...' forum or over on hotukdeals - a guy called MikeT posts them there.
I'd stick yours on ebay as spares / repair - you could maybe get £80+ for it as it sits.0 -
You could contact Acer and see if it is still within warrenty. I have had 2 screens replaced under warrenty for other people with similar dammage. it doesnt hurt to ask some manufactures will sort it out for nowt if within warrenty.
you could make up a story or just tell them your screen isnt working what ever.0 -
yeah when i had my last laptop and the rottweiler sat on it (dont ask  ) i was getting quotes of between £300 and £400 considering the laptop was only worth £400 i claimed on house insurance to get it fixed, may be your best bet
Savings Total so far for 2026: £0/£10,0000 -
Oh that seems familiar. My laptop is just like that so I'm resorting to having to minimise screens at the moment or like someone else mentioned, just connecting it up to another monitor. Hope you get it sorted.0

thanks for comments,
it's only 9 months old - but I doubt that the warranty will cover it as it is physical damage infliction.
I am resorting to use a PC monitor for now..
don't think i'll bother with an insurance claim..
ebay option seems viable too and then getting a replacement.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}0 -
You have nothing to loose claiming under warrenty after all, apart from about a week without the laptop. How did the dammade ocur It looks like you closed the lid on somthing arround the DF keys on the keyboard.0
-
will try it little john.
anyone got a contact number handy to claim? else i'll go and check the box, but i do remember having trouble registering my laptop online when i first got it - will this cause any hassle? got all receipts etc though{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}0 -
i think you'd have more chance claiming on house contents insurance rather than the warranty, from what i can make out it looks self inflicted rather than the laptops fault0
-
Yeah accidental house insurance will pay up but it could cost you in the long run, trying to get it fixed under warrenty will cost nothing as mst manufactureres pay for the courier to collect them.
Like I said you have nothing to loose, if Acer turn round and say no then you have another path you can try by going through insurance.0
