Living without a oven?

Some hyears ago we had the choice of an oven in the kitchen or a table, I chose the table, we had a combi microwave and a hot plate and they worked perfectly well, I managed to cook family meals for 6 at various times.
I have a panasonic combi microwave, its brilliant, I can cook anything in it I can in the oven and roast spuds only take 30 minutes so cook whilst the joint is resting. A whole chicken takes on average 40 minutes to 55 minutes depending on size and is perfectly cooked.
If I want to do a victoria sponge I cook it in a deep tin and split in half, perpfect. We have an oven but I never use it.0 -
My main oven died some weeks ago & I thought I wouldn't be able to cope without it - but I had a small 15L oven with grill that I inherited but never used before & that has been a lifesaver. The only thing I don't love about it is that it takes up valuable worktop space (but I can now cunningly store my slow cooker in the old oven without panicking that I'll end up cooking it
).
I may get around to trying to repair the old one some day, but the small oven is fab. However there are only 3 of us & I never did much batch cooking as I'm never organised enough :rotfl:& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Hi,
Where I live I don't have an oven I've been here for just over 4 years!!! I have a slow cooker, george forman, microwave, kettle and can make near enough anything I want (There is only me though) I did by a mini oven however it only gets used if I'm cooking chips or a pizza (which is rare anyway as I can't eat wheat and wheat free are £3.50 for a small one )
Joints of meat, eg chicken can easily be cooked in the slow cooker and tougher joints become really tender!
The thing I miss the most is a hob for stir fry's etc
Good Luck, :rotfl:Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0 -
I will look at the different sizes. There's 4 of us and I tend to use the oven for making cakes, cooking a roast dinner and oven chips. I think a mini oven wouldn't be able to cook a whole chicken would it?
I've done a roast chicken in a mini-oven more than once with roast spuds and roast onions. It works perfectly well as long as you get one that's big enough and which goes to about 200C. The timings are just the same as for a normal oven too: 20 min/lb plus 20 mins.
You couldn't do yorkshires in one as it doesn't go hot enough.0 -

Why not? My Redmond multicooker works as a bread maker. I used to make bread & pies in it, after all this device can be used as pressure cooker, rice cooker, stew and soup maker, and even yogurt maker. Like many-in-one. By the way, I got mine for less than 100 pounds.0
