Direct debit Help

I pay my British Gas business gas bill by direct debit & have done for many years.
No changes at my end for many years.
British Gas have been trying to claim money from my bank account since March of this year.
They cannot seem to get the money from my account !!!
They blame Santander bank for not paying the direct debit but the mandate is set up & I can view it online.
Santander blame British Gas, British Gas blame Santander !!!!!!!
Strangely enough my British Gas electricity direct debit works !!!
Does anybody have any sensible advice as to the way forward ??

I have already emailed a "Formal Complaint' but this does not seem to have helped.
