Moorcroft Debt/ EE

Hello everyone this is my first post asking for advice so any reply's would be greatly appreciated.

I lost my job a few months ago and fell behind on my Phone contract with EE i was in arrears with them for around £200 and the payment planned they offered for me to get back on track was £50 a week which i couldn't afford. So now they have closed down my account and billed me for the remaining months on my contract which is about 13 months out of a 24 month contract. I have received a letter from Moorcroft demanding the money i owe which they say is £700 +
I asked them on the phone to send out evidence to my home address to where they got the figure from and they sent me my last 3 statements from my monthly orange bill which added up to the £200. Sorry for rambling on and my punctuation btw. They have started ringing my house now. I was out all day and my mum said they had rung around 6 - 8 times! Obviously i want to clear my debt but i don't want to get ripped off and don't want to put myself in more difficulty by paying more than i can afford each month.

So basically i'm asking how do i proceed with moorcroft now thank you in advance for your help!

  • Moorcroft will be acting for Orange. You can still write direct to Orange for a breakdown of the sum. It's a bit sloppy that they didn't do this BEFORE sending it to a debt collector.

As for Moorcroft, tell them (in writing) that you are disputing the sum with Orange and you require all future correspondence to be in writing.

At the end of the day this figure may be correct according to the t&cs - how much can you afford? Do you have other debts?

I had a debt with Moorcroft/Orange and found them pretty understanding and I set up a snowball debt repayment in tandem with my other debts for £5 per month. Make my last payment of £26 next month :). I was a lot further on than you though, where Orange had terminated my contract and I had to basically pay the rest of my contract off + a cancellation fee.

Okay i will write to orange for a breakdown of the sum and also write to Moorcroft. Yeah i fully understand that the figure may be correct. Well i have £100 left on little woods which will be payed off in novembers pay and £150 left on a credit card.which there is another three months of £50 I know my debt isn't extreme, i just need advice on how to handle them. It's just frustrating i've been with orange since i was 18, I'm 21 now and never missed a payment with them and when i lost my Job they weren't helpful at all.

Orange has an awful reputation for sorting out customer problems, they are atrocious at it.
As said above, Moorcroft are only acting for Orange so really you don't need to deal with them at all, but, they may/may not, have more luck in getting Orange customer service to do its job right.

Personally I think its an impossible task, where Orange/EE are concerned, a similar thing happened to me, I got no were with Orange at all, I ended up waiting till they sold the debt on, my old friends Lowell picked it up, I told them the account had been in dispute blah blah, kept them busy for a few months, but still did not get resolved, so in the end made Lowell an offer to settle for half the debt, which would of been approx. correct, they accepted, deal done, all in writing, moved on.

Don't expect Orange to sort this out for you, they ignored 3 letters of complaint from me.
