Student Loan Repayments Abroad
[Deleted User]

Hi all,
I attended University in the UK from 2008-2012 and had a student loan for the entire period.
Upon graduation, I moved to the US to continue studying for my Master's degree and as I don't earn enough here, the Student Loans Company doesn't expect any payments.
However, my question is this... Does my loan get forgiven / wiped if I live abroad for a certain amount of time? I have heard from various 'sources' that if I live abroad for something like 10 years, my loan is forgiven.
Of course, I can't find any legitimate information on this and was just wondering if this is true or it's just someone making hopeful comments..
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

This is a common myth that is spread around.
Obviously if you were to move to a new country and they couldn't track you down then you could potentially get away with it but it's seen as similar to tax fraud.
As you took out the pre-2012 loan you'll be similar to everyone else in that your loan will be wiped after 25 years.0
