Offshore call centres

Do they think we are stupid or something. Phoned Prudential callcentre re endowment policies etc. Told by the operative that his name was Keith.
He had a distinct accent. So at the end of the conversation I asked where the callcentre was - he replied reluctantly India.
Do these companies take us for complete idiots. Are they now giving their staff English names so as to hide the fact that they have gone offshore? Or was he really called Keith?? :-/

Why not? I hear Kevin is a very popular name in France. Although they do pronounce it Kuh-van. Which sounds much better.[size=-2]Matched betting profit: ~ £30,000 since Jan 2005

Call me an old cynic but I have just found this article that explains exactly what might be going on.
I find it all very patronising trying to pretend that you are talking to someone in England rather than being honest about who you are speaking to.
The other factor being that when trying to resolve a problem or difficulty the operative does not deviate at all from a script so the caller does not get the issue resolved satisfactorily. Hardly worth bothering with the phone call in the first place.I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -

You are correct, it is a fact that many people in the Indian call centres take on Anglicised names - gives the caller a warm snuggly feeling that they are going to get some help. But part of the problem is because we would not understand or be able to pronounce some of their names.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Hopefully, as a good money saver, you only ever do this for 0800 numbers. ;D ;D
