Flooding insurance help

Hi I am buying a house and the vendor has disclosed that the cellar has flooded to about 4 inches, 6 times in the last 20 years when heavy rain. The house is a Victorian semi.

It is the house we are renting and we know that this hasn't happened in the last 3 years we have lived in the house.

We have tried getting insurance via price comparison sites and our mortgage broker and no-one has been able to offer us insurance.

The house is not in a flood risk area (on top of a hill).

The mortgage is obviously dependent on us arranging insurance.

Please help, what can we do?

Thanks

Have you tried via a broker found from this site?

Not all brokers can offer what you need, but it doesn't sound on the face of it that yours is a particularly 'difficult' house. My daughter's Victorian house has a sump pump in the cellar and she has had no problem getting insured.

Just a thought. If insurance does turn out to be pricey, that might be a legitimate reason to reduce your offer a little!
