ezman I've been looking at the IKEA site; a home visit by an IKEA designer will cost £50.
Do they charge instore and what service do they offer there.
Kevin
They don't charge instore and were willing to spend as long we liked on the design, plus they saved to our online profile, gave us print-outs of 3D visuals with full price breakdowns for everything.0 -
More then happy with the in store design service we received. Must have spent around 6 hours in there altogether. We bought our cabinets from them, kitchen appliances at a local store ( great discount given as such a large order) and the money we saved we put to paying for granite work tops and splash back and porcelain flooring
Me and hubby built and fitted the kitchen, done all the electrical tracking and so only needed an electrician for a few hours and a plumber for an hour0 -
We got kitchens designed by Magnet, Homebase and someone else (all came up with ideas we hadn't thought of). We then used a combination of those ideas and put together our own plans using Homebase units, but sourcing the appliances, tiles etc independently.
It's your kitchen - you can do whatever you want.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Just get a fitter that can do everything that isn't subbed out by Ikea etc, obviously one that has been recommended!
I think Mayfair Granite are near you and they get excellent reviews.
Thanks, I contacted Mayfair to see if I could work backwards from the worktops - asked if they worked with any designers. Turns out they have a kitchen design arm 'Interiors4living' which may be offer a good option, so off to see them.0 -
Be aware that ikea kitchens arent as easy to fit as other kitchens. Ikea kitchens are designed for the pipes etc to be run inside the cabinets. Magnet, howdens etc have a servies section behind the units. This in turn makes the units easier to scribe to walls that are out of square etc.
Cheap units with expensive taps, sinks and worktops can look 10k dearer than they cost.
Fitting units isnt that hard, its all about the planning and getting everytihng level. If you are doing it yourself invest in a laser lever, sure a decent one may cost £100 but you are saving on the fitting costs and you can sell it on after.0 -
Visited B&Q today and spoke to a lady in their kitchen department. They are prepared to send out one of their design consultants to my home to help draw up a plan when I'm a little bit closer to starting. I think I'll take them up on that.
Making an appointment to see someone in IKEA, hopefull next week sometime, and hopefully I'll get as good a service as suki1964
I have two concerns and if they help me get around them I'll buy them a pint :beer:0 -
:jEzman,in my opinion the quote you had is pretty good,i researched the market a year ago and it was a nightmare,in the end i paid 20K for the units and appliances, i replaced every appliance with Siemens and included a coffee maker.
The quote included minor building work,Karndean Floor, designer Radiator, and a new ceiling.
What part of the UK are you because the company i had were very good and i would recommend them,i am based in Nottingham.
Have PM'd you, redmalc0 -
You can definitely do it cheaper sourcing everything yourself.
I went for an end of the line kitchen unit and doors from ikea £760
Appliances from appliances online £ 600 we already had the fridge!
Sink and tap from ebay £100
Quartz worktop from local supplier £ 2.5K fitted.
Here is the result :-0 -
DIY kitchens get a lot off recommendations so factor them in.
Yes you are correct, get the worktops from a specialist, Mayfair,(as mentioned earlier), I forget their sister company, are great and not expensive. They are based in Bradford but travel all over the country.
You can pay silly money for designers and in reality most suppliers will do exactly the same for zilch £I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
