Booking a repair - what's my legal position

Bit of a different one this from the usual!
Contacted someone about a repair on my phone and requested that he carry it out after agreeing a price. I was then told he wasn't sure whether he had one of the parts and would contact me the next day which he didn't.
After a couple of days he emailed me to say that the part was now in and that the repair could go ahead......and to be honest by this time I'd thought about it and decided to get a new phone instead. However guilty conscious took over and decided to go ahead with the repair.
Since then even though I've tried to get in contact with him, I've heard nothing and tbh I'm getting pretty fed not getting the situation any further forward so I was wondering if I don't go ahead with the repair am I opening myself up to any claims? And if there is the potential how do I mitigate them?

How long have you been trying to get in touch with him?
If he's not replying, I don't think you've much to worry about.0 -
Sorry for the delay (spot the irony eh?)
I've been trying for the last fortnight to get hold of him but he doesn't seem to reply to texts at all.
I did arrange a pick up for today, which was rearranged at my request from yesterday, but he didn't turn up.
tbh I've given up on him now....can't be doing with all this hassle....just have to decide now whether I repair the phone or just buy a new one!0
