Should son be repaying student loan now?

My son did a 2yr foundation degree leading on to a top up year to make it a full degree. He finished uni June this year.

His payslip this month shows that student loans have taken £15 from him for his loan. Should this not have started until next April being the year after he graduated?

He rang them up and they stated that as the courses had different numbers then they are entitled to start deducting for his foundation degree.
Advice would be appreciated please .

As far as SLC are concerned, the foundation degree is a separate period of study to the top-up degree so the loans from the foundation degree will enter repayment in the April after he finished this and the loan for the top-up degree will enter repayment in the April after he finished that (next April).
