Hiya
i posted before about a mini break we've settled on a break somewhere as below:
Snowy - ie ski type resort but not skiing
near town
self catering
no car
end jan/beg feb 3 nights weekend or weeknight
dep. LGW
looking for somewhere that we can cosy up with a cocoa infront of a fire maybe over looking a lake to chill out for a few days.
We don't mind a short transfer time but would like to be within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
Any location considered. around £40pn flights around £100pp

Charlie,
I think you may struggle to get all of that, especially at that price. (Although most of my experience is with France and Austria - places like Bulgaria have historically been cheaper).
The trouble with accomodation is that it's peak season so most rentals will be weekly. You may get lucky with Owners Direct and find a self catering short break option.
Geneva is one of the cheapest places to fly in to; flights around the £100 mark if you book soon might be possible. From Geneva you could try Morzine or Chamonix. Both are big(ish) towns about 75 minutes away. Transfers are around the £60 mark.
There's probably enough to do in Morzine for a few days, you can take the Super Morzine bubble lift up as a foot paasenger and have a drink in the bar next to the slopes. Plenty of restaurants and bars in town.
I also really like Mayrhofen in Austria, flying in to Innsbruck. There's quite a few hotels in town, so you may be able to book directly.
Good luck!0 -

Hey,
I would highly recommend L'Aiglon De Morzine for the requirements you mentioned. They offer wonderful self-catered chalets with a warm and friendly atmosphere, I think it would be perfect for the 'feel' of holiday you're looking for.
Morzine is absolutely fabulous for families. as it is just so easy to get to (only 50 miles from Geneva).
We went to the indoor swimming centre pretty much every day we were there - the kids loved it! If you choose to go to a resort off the beaten track you run the risk of it not having the child-friendly facilities that you need.
Morzine is really family friendly and have been awarded the "Family +" certificate for exceptional family experience.
But what is really good is the amount of activities off the slopes too. If the little ones want a break from the slopes mid-week then there is Aquariaz - a family orientated water park with plenty on offer for young children to teenagers, and adults.
Morzine as a town is really easy to navigate and the locals are really friendly. We try and head back to L'Aiglon De Morzine every year with the family - where we can 'cosy up with a cocoa infront of a fire'.0
