Car Insurance with unspent conviction

Hi I was wondering if one of the insurance experts can help me with a quick question...my bf had a conviction for drink driving 6 years ago and is now in the process of insuring his own vehicle (prev had company car), when he completes the online form for quotes it only asks about motoring related convictions in the last 5 years which he has answered no to, however there is a question that says any unspent non motoring convictions...do I answer yes to the unspent convictions even though it was motoring related?
Thanks in advance for any help

If those are the questions then you wouldnt have to declare it.
Remember that the clock for both questions starts ticking from the date of the conviction and not the date of the offence.
For other purposes, remember the timescales until convictions are spent were changed this year too https://www.gov.uk/government/news/reforms-to-help-reduce-reoffending-come-into-force0 -
Unless he went to prison for it, a drink driving conviction becomes spent after five years in any event. It's true that the endorsement stays on his licence for 11 years, but that isn't taken into account for the purposes of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act - any driving licence endorsement carries a 5 year rehabilitation period, regardless of how long it stays on your licence for. The relevant case law is Power v Provincial Insurance; in the absence of an online link to the case itself here's the Financial Ombudsman's view on the matter.0
