Should I risk trying to get to work/using petrol because of flooding?

Well I'd also like to point out that roads only have a certain capacity, and if people are funnelled onto another unflooded road, that capacity can then be exceeded.
You may end up being stuck in traffic rather than water in that case."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I was just going to point the same out. I am in Yorkshire and this is exactly what happened when roads around here were closed after the floods. I think you've made the right choice by staying off.Well I'd also like to point out that roads only have a certain capacity, and if people are funnelled onto another unflooded road, that capacity can then be exceeded.

Louisa, I'd be surprised if either place is open as there is no running water and there is unlikely to be for another 2 weeks.0

Joey, my work place and the nursery have both- work has emergency back up generators etc and nursery is just outside of the affected area. DH in chelt at work seems to be fine too, I find it really strange that businesses can continue operating but people's homes have been cut off.
It must be so upsetting to have your home invaded by the water, I really feel for everyone who has been affected. Just hope that most were adequately insured. (With a good deal, secured by using MSE principles of course

It is tough... i'm just a single 28 year old guy living in a flat, but I really feel for families, especially those with babies... how do they cope?
I took a 10 minute walk into town earlier... I passed one single (empty) water bowser... most of the shops were open, but bars, cafes and restaurants were all closed so I guess businesses have been cut off too.0 -
I agree that you've taken the day off, if you didn't have to get back to the nursery then maybe the boss might've been a tad p***ed off but you've got to think of your family.
So, enjoy the day with your son and maybe fit a bit of ebaying in too and make the day profitable!!

Hmmm I live in Gloucester, have power know thank god, but not running water and OH work is fully operational with power, no water and .... PORTALOO'S. They have been specifically told not to do you know what in them.. so not a brilliant environment to be made to work in!
All the major roads seem fine today, except the A40 which is closed and the Forest of Dean cut off.0 -
Isnt it against health and safety for an employer to stay open without adequate toilet facilities for staff?0
