For my area(Midlands) SSE's standard tariff for 12 months using 12,000kWh would cost £1758 - paying by cheque and 12 months standing charge.
The cheapest SSE tariff would cost £1,403 and the cheapest non-SSE tariff £13070 -

It is not the inventory readings that matter, but rather the readings that SSE are using as the initial meter reading.
Are you sure they are using meter reading 40118?
if not you could be paying for the previous occupant's electricity!0 -
He is on the phone to them now, apparently that was correct but apparently we have used £5 worth of electricity in the past five hours. They are sending someone around tomorrow to check it.
They also said our meter was exceptionally high in April but because of that they stopped sending our bills? Crazy stuff.0
