It's exciting times. Helps the decluttering process when you move at least.

Thanks MrsE :) The decluttering helps in 2 ways - getting rid of stuff, and raising funds to go in the moving home pot ;)

£12.16 withdrawn from PP into FD acc today (to add to the £16.60 I withdrew last week). I've moved £14 over to a separate 'house moving' acc (money from pp - postage - bay of E selling fees = £14).

I've done my online shop in plenty of time this week, which means I get the cheapest delivery slot rather than them all being gone and having to get a more expensive one, and I've also given myself chance to remember all the stuff I forgot (hopefully!) which will cut down on the "oh no, we've no <insert thing here> I'll have to go to the shop now to get it".

    Also done today:
    - posted off an item that sold on ebay.
    - set up a SO to pay some money each month straight from my business bank account into my ISA, on the same day I pay myself.
    - sorted out Lumpy's drawers which were so full he could barely open most of them and removed all the stuff that no longer fits (roughly a third!) which will all need to be photographed to sell at some point. Some of it is summer stuff so that will have to be stored until next year.
    - confirmed a booking for another client who is paying in advance over the next 5 months :T
    - started filling in form for a quote from a removal firm.
    - shouted at the cat for peeing on my shoes

    Good evening all :)

Today we had a home ed play date so there was 5 children racing round my house like loons  I need to pop dinner on in a bit, and I'm hoping to pop out to later to a group meeting but thought I'd do a quickie post before I start cooking.

This morning while speaking to my mum she said that she and my dad might be able to give us an interest free loan on the money we need to top up the mortgage/cost of the house instead of getting a second mortgage :o I hadn't even considered asking such a thing (and probably wouldn't have done it even if I had considered it!) but the offer is wonderful. It'd still need paying back, obviously, as it's a loan not a gift, but it would mean we didn't need to phaff about with trying to secure an additional loan secured on the house.

Also today I sorted and folded the clothes I took out of Lumpy's drawers yesterday and posted them on a local selling group - current total is 15 items sold, still some to go (hopefully!) so that's another £15 for the moving pot... I may start a signature tally to keep myself motivated ;)

Anyway, hope everyone is well today

Today I moved £25.50 into the moving house pot (£15 from yesterday plus £10.50 from today) :j the total is currently £159.something. We already had ~£120 stashed away for a holiday next year which we're not going on after all, and decided that that money would be come our moving house pot, so have managed to add nearly £40 to it so far.

    These are the moving costs:
    Sky Home Move: £25
    Alarm Move: £30
    Van hire: £110 (if it's a weekend, £55 if it's a weekday, I'm budgeting for a weekend)
Take aways: £30 (because I imagine the night before we move and the evening we move we won't be cooking... so I wanna have this in the budget!)

That comes to £195, but I'm sure I'm forgetting something... so I think if I aim for about £220-230 that should cover whatever I've forgotten?

That's really nice of your parents and must really help take the stress away a little bit.

Do you have a rough idea when the move might happen?

Yes and no. They've offered to cover the difference between our sale price and purchase price, paid back over 5 years at £150pcm. And our budget is already tight. If I can get the food shopping down to below £500pcm then we could make the £150pcm payments...

However, we will still need to find the money for the legal fees, plus the stamp duty... which frankly we don't have. We could get a 0% credit card to cover them, but would then have minimum payments to cover as well as the repayments to my parents... the other option is that I raid my ISA and we use the money from that to cover legal fees etc, but then that'd mean we would have literally no emergency funds whatsoever, meaning if a piece of gutter fell off or a window got broken we'd be up the creek with no paddle.

Plus my ISA is a fix... which means I'd be penalised if I removed some or all of the funds from it. We could sell the car, except I need the car to work and we specifically got this car because it fits all 3 car seats across the back safely and is big enough for us to go on self catering holiday in etc... I have no idea what we'd swap it for, and anything similar would be a similar cost anyway meaning we'd not actually make any money anyway!

Genuinely not sure how I feel about the prospect. I want to take my parents up on it, I really do... but I wonder if a second mortgage, by dint of being over a longer period of time, would actually be better because we would be able to afford to live in the meantime, maybe put some more money away into the emergency fund (I'm aiming for 3 months worth? £6k?) and then start making overpayments in earnest. And hopefully by that point the manwife will be earning a bit more because he's STILL not on the wage he should be for the job he's doing.

Sorry, that ended up being rather long... all this has been going round and round my head all day ;) think my brain has melted and dribbled out of my ear! :rotfl:

    Good evening everyone :)

Used leftover lamb leg from Monday to make a lamb curry this evening, which we had with rice and some naan I picked up in H.Bargains for a massive 49p ;) and wow it was delish! Even the kids liked it, which rarely happens with new dishes! Have fetched out the chicken to put in the slow cooker tomorrow while we are out at a home ed group.

Both manwife and I think that, while we really want to be able to take my parents up on their offer, we'd seriously screw ourselves if we did. We're fairly sure we'll go ahead with a small secondary mortgage. Any thoughts might help ;)

    Hello all :)

Well after a very frustrating 5 weeks (!!!) our buyers finally sent over their AIP and solicitor's details on Tuesday and we got the Sales Memos out. Awaiting paperwork from solicitors before we book a survey... I would imagine that it'll be the new year now before it gets done.

Moving house pot currently stands at £223.57. We still have about £145 to pay off a credit card on payday next week... and then all spare funds will be going towards moving costs.

The stamp duty changes have come at just the right time I think ;) we were rather pleased to read about that. Nice to only be paying £40 not £1200+!

Is anybody ready for the big C word yet??

At this point I had hoped I would be updating to say "yay, we've moved in, now to get things sorted and then we can start overpaying..!"

    :rotfl::rotfl:

    What I'm actually saying is..

The bank have been unforgivably slow. We finally got our AIP just before close of business yesterday and only because I made a formal complaint about how long it was taking. Our vendor is being very kind and understanding about it.

The buyers, however, are idiots, and handed in their notice on their rental property (they were advised not to hand in their notice until they had a completion date but did it anyway, and then didn't tell anyone until it was nearly expired) and now have to be moved out in 2 weeks  so they are pressing to complete by then so they can move in...

Our solicitors are starting the searches today and we have an appt to complete the mortgage application on Tuesday but even if everyone gets on with things quickly quickly our solicitor still reckons it'll be about 3 weeks. Obviously, the timings do not add up and the manwife and I are a leeeeeetle bit stressed about the whole thing, not least because the buyers are threatening to pull out if they can't complete and move in before the 6th!

However... work has been going rather well for both of us so our moving house savings pot currently stands at around £1k. We still have about another £500 to put away I think. (Am v. happy about this because it bodes well for our OPing after we move :) )

In other news, the car failed its MOT, but we had the money in our Car Pot to pay for the work needed to pass it. We also renewed our breakdown cover and insurance for rather less than last year (saving £20 and £425 respectively), which again, came out of the Car Pot :)
