Ceiling light wiring

if I accidentally wired the switched live wire and the neutral wires into the wrong connectors in new light could this be the reason why the light in the next room on the same circuit isn't coming on.. ( the new light works ) couldn't check last night as got dark too early.!

    Yes................

You can check one faulty wiring arrangement by seeing if the second light comes on only when the first one is on.

Thanks.. I've took the new one down this morning..
The switched live was in L on light fitting, Earth to earth, and the 2 other blacks were in N.. ( they seemed to have become losise when attaching fitting to ceiling..
Have decided I'm going to go back to a normal plastic ceiling rose with a nice shade as this particular light was a sod of a job to get up as wires from ceiling not quite long enough and my arms were killing!
There are also 3 red wires blocked off and taped over in the ceiling.. Will these need to be connected to the rose now? Previous fitting was halogens on a plate.

  • No need to do anything with the lives it will still work with the rose. You can attach them if you want though.

Will probably easier to connect if I do put them in as there's not much give with them all being together.

You quite often find that when you replace a ceiling rose with a light fitting that you need an additional connector block to keep the wiring connections the same as they were.

I've done it.. Connected the switched live and the other 2 blacks to the rose and left the Reds as they were.. Would have been even more fiddly to connect them in.
All lights are working as they should.
Never thought I would go back to a ceiling rose!!
