I don't understand that...
You work 2 days per week; 2 days x 5 weeks = 10 days
He works 4 days per week. 4 days x 5 weeks = 20 days

But you are not paid in that month for the days you actually work in that month, you are paid, as you state 1/12 of your annual salary.
Being that Mr X works 4 days to your 2 does that not mean he does twice the hours you do? Then his £11k annual would be correct to your £5500 annual.
I too think I may be missing why you think he is on a higher hourly rate!!

here is a rough breakdown of how pro rata was explained to me.
full time contract is 52 weeks at @ 18,500 or 1/12 a month = 1541
both myself and mrx can only be paid for 39 weeks of 18,000 at any time this is spread out in 12 increments.
mrx has a contract that states that he will be paid 12 x 4/5 of 39 weeks ( he works 4 days of a possible 5)
my contract states that I will be paid 12 x 2/5 of 39 weeks ( 2 days out of a possible 5)
If we both to work a full 5/5 out of 39 weeks I can never earn the same amount as mrx due to the fact that for 13 weeks of the year my contract pays me 2/5 of 39 weeks but mrx has a contract that pays him 4/5 out of 39 weeks.
That is time that can not make up as overtime as we do not work those weeks, we get paid for them as our salary is paid in 1/12 of our salary over the year.0 -

No? What am I missing?
he worked 4 days x3 weeks =12 days ( he started after me)
his contract says he will be paid for 11,000 which is 4 days of 39 weeks pro rata
Mine states that I will be paid 5,058 which is 2 days of 39 weeks pro rata
as neither of us has worked any over time hours in august as we cant because we do not work that month, he will be paid 1/12 of 11,000
I will be paid 1/12 of 5,050
during the month of august ( im using this as an example to keep it simple as it also applies to the other 11 weeks) I can never match what mr x is being paid as there is not the opportunity to match his 4 days.0 -
so he shouldn't be paid a 'full' months wages - just for the 12 days out of his scheduled 20. If he is, its because payroll are in a mess...
I understand the non-term time stuff and it does suck... I agree with others and would be inclined to formally apply for the full time/term time jobs they're recruiting for.Debt free 4th April 2007.

as he is working 4/5 adn you are pnly doing 2/5 ( contractually) yes you will automatically get less than him in the weeks that you guys are off ( non term time)
even if the extra days are given to you routinely, and you end up doing in fact 4/5 days, then you still will only get paid for 2/5 days in the holidays/ non term time.
I get where you are going with this!
Have you aplied for the full time one?
I would tell them that you want a transfer to that.
if they dont or wont accomodate that ( and certainly they should they have only just employed you so they must like you and its better to have a full time job covered than a part time one covered IMO) then Id walk. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

oh thank you SO much, i was starting to think i was going mad.
The problem is that the job both myself and mr x applied for is the SAME JOB we have both been told at every stage that the job will become full time
It was only last week I was told that they want to give me extra hours and not change my contract to reflect that, that is not full time in my eyes.
I think the problem was that when he was looking at the rota to give me my extra day, he suddenly noticed that one of the full timers were off sick and thought he would use the opportunity to see if he could pull a fast one and get me to agree to stay as part time and accept flexible hours to cover for sick and holidays - not realizing that i had already cottoned on to the 13 weeks of lower pay0 -
so he shouldn't be paid a 'full' months wages - just for the 12 days out of his scheduled 20. If he is, its because payroll are in a mess...

THIS job was offered with the provision to be full time, ive been told by the line manager, and the HR that it will be full time, im now being told by this line manager that he does not want to change my contract to full time as he wants to keep me as holiday and sick cover or to do short term contracts..... and I quote " and then put you back down to 16 hours, because you don't want to be sitting around here being bored"!!!!!!
.. well no bored isn't good but then being evicted because you cant pay your rent because your benefits keep going up and down and your always in arrears isn't so tickettyboo either :mad:0 -
That sounds good to me, almost play it quite innocently, as if you are trying to help them out - is it ok for you to enrol on a college course, or will you be needed at work?
<opening formalities>
Im just looking at my course options for college for September and just need to confirm that I will be working 16 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday and you will not be increasing my contracted hours in September
